Our Purpose and Mission

Welcome to Stella! A charity dedicated to empowering individuals living with diverse conditions and abilities.

My mission is to create an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their physical, mental or emotional challenges, can thrive and strive to reach their fullest potential. This charity is massively important to me as having Spina Bifida and scoliosis has shown me how important it is to feel heard and understood by other people. Dealing with a condition can be very difficult and overwhelming at any stage in your life.

That is why I will be providing support and helping people and families who are going through changes in their lives. I believe raising awareness and having support is a crucial part of having more inclusivity in the world and helping people that are living with a condition, to feel less isolated. If you have any other suggestions or ideas on how we can support you or another person please let us know!

Autism isn’t something new—it’s a natural part of the human experience. Autistic people have always been here, across every race, gender, and background. And there’s no “one way” to be autistic! 💙

Despite progress, individuals with Down syndrome in the UK still face challenges, including barriers to healthcare, education, and employment. 🦋 September is Chiari Malformation Awareness Month! 🧠

Chiari Malformation is a condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal, causing a range of symptoms that can include:

• Severe headaches often worsened by coughing, sneezing, or straining.
• Neck pain and dizziness.
• Balance and coordination problems due to pressure on the brain and spinal cord.
• Numbness or tingling in the hands and feet.
• Difficulty swallowing or breathing in severe cases.

While Chiari Malformation can be congenital, it often goes undiagnosed until symptoms become severe. It affects both children and adults, and each person’s experience can be different.

💫Meet the Founder of Stella Charity💛: Maddie Starr⭐️

Hey superstars! I’m Maddie, the proud Founder of Stella, and I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

I’m an 18-year-old , living with what feels like an endless amount of conditions such as spina bifida, scoliosis, hydrocephalus, and more. Despite these challenges, I have embraced my journey with hope and determination.

Throughout my life, I have faced numerous obstacles, from countless medical appointments and around 16 surgeries to unexpected emergency procedures. Each recovery has been a battle in itself, testing my strength and perseverance. However, I have became stronger and more determined to make a positive impact in the world.

Stella was born out of my passion for spreading awareness and providing a safe, supportive community. Through our chat room and various programs, I aim to share the lessons I’ve learned from my experiences, proving that even in the toughest times, we can find light and hope. Together, we can turn hardships into opportunities for growth and positive change.
